Rot: the Mississauga freeze-thaw problem
Water sits at the bottom of a wooden jamb, freezes, expands and opens the grain. Do that thirty times a winter for a decade and the bottom eight inches turn to sponge. We cut the rot out, splice in matched stock, seal the end grain and correct whatever drainage let the water sit there — otherwise it comes back in two seasons.
Split at the strike
A vertical crack running up and down from the strike plate means the frame took a hit. Filling it with glue and a screw is cosmetic. The fix is a jamb section replacement, or the whole leg, plus reinforcement so the new wood isn't carrying the load alone.
Frames that moved with the house
Houses settle. When a frame goes out of square the door binds at the top corner, the latch misses the strike and the weatherstrip only touches on one side. We shim and re-anchor the frame back to plumb instead of grinding the strike bigger every year.

- Can a frame be repaired or does it need replacing?
- Most can be repaired. A single split leg, rot at the bottom or loose anchors are all section-level fixes. Full replacement is for frames that are rotted through their full height, twisted, or where the rough opening itself was damaged.
- How long does a jamb rebuild take?
- A single split jamb leg with reinforcement is usually two to three hours on site. A full frame with sill and threshold on an exterior opening runs most of a day.
- Do you paint or stain the repair?
- We prime and seal the new wood so it's protected immediately, and match the profile of the existing trim. Finish coats to match your colour are quoted separately.
